The visitors kicked with the wind in the first quarter but failed to take advantage, kicking five behinds. Port didn't have the same trouble, booting four goals without reply to all but make the game safe at the long break. They held an inaccurate Melbourne to two goals in the third term and went on to an easy win.
Best were Mann, Alves and Anderson. Graeme Jacobs suffered a thigh injury.
