The army side represented the third division. They had League and Association players in their ranks, Campbell and Smith from Collingwood, Cooley from Brunswick, Begley from Essendon, Broadley from South Melbourne and Bretherton from Northcote.

It took Melbourne until the last few minutes to pull away. The Army side did what no league side could all season, kept them under 100 points.

Proceeds of the match were donated to the Red Cross and the division.

McGrath, Daly, the Cordner brothers, La Fontaine also played.
