September 1894 Match vs South Melbourne

Saturday 1 September - East Melbourne

Melbourne 1.5, 2.6, 2.9, 2.12
South Melbourne 2.2, 4.4, 5.6, 6.10

South Melbourne win by 4 goals

Goalkickers: Roche 1, Smith 1

With the premiership already decided Melbourne took a long list of injuries into their second last match of the season. Moysey, O'Dwyer, Kelly and Howes were all out and each of McGinis, Moore and Fox played under sufferance. They still went in as hot favourites, but were comfortably defeated.

Had their conversion when kicking for goal not been so terrible they might have gotten closer, but the odds were always against them. On a sticky ground they didn't have the speed to go with their opponents.

Best were O'Dea, Christy and Fry.
