After two encouraging performances in a row, including pushing top of the table Richmond the previous Saturday the Demons were comfortably beaten by a North side who shot back into top four contention with their victory.
Despite the final result it hadn't been an easy run for North, the Demons started well but botched their chances in the first quarter and were overrun as the game went on. Approaching half time Melbourne were 19 points in front, before four late goals by the Shinboners gave them a half-time lead.
The visitors tired in the second half, slowing to a walk and allowing North to run away with an easy victory.
Best were Robinson, Spencer and Woods. Bob Rowse was 19th and McLean 20th man. Collins (knee) and Beckwith (flu) were replaced by Paynter and Heywood (originally named 20th man) in the selected side. Rowse replaced McGivern (hip) and Johnston (thigh) by McLean.
