After putting some respectability back into their season with a fighting win over Fitzroy the previous week, Melbourne lost again but after a respectable performance against one of the league's top side. Before their first game at the WACA, the Demons were denied permission to train on the ground. Early in the week they were still trying to find a venue to train at before the match.
