Ruck rover who was previously on the Brisbane Bears list along with brother brother David. He left Queensland to join VFA side Sandringham, and after nine games Melbourne picked him in the 1991 Mid-Season Draft.

Wearne didn't play a senior game in his first year, but played against his brother in the losing Reserves Grand Final. He was finally given a chance at senior level after a 43 possession, 36 kick game against the Bears in Round 11, 1992 but was dropped after three games and delisted at the end of the season without playing another game.

Wearne is the only listed Melbourne player to represent Queensland in State of Origin football.
