South Melbourne win by 14 points
Ted Carroll (3rd game)
With two teams entering the last few weeks of the season with nothing to play for except pride, the Swans and Melbourne clashed in front of a tiny crowd at Waverley and it was South who came out on top.
The win was South's third in a row, the first time they had achieved that feat since 1970, and they continued to be a bogy side for the Demons - inflicting their second straight win on former champion Bob Skilton in the opposition camp.
It was a great day all-round for the Swans, their reserves won their first game for the year and joined the Demons at 1-17 on the seconds ladder, while their Under 19's had a one point win.
Best were Ditterich, Flower and Wells.
