Saturday June 22 - Melbourne Ground
Melbourne 0
Carlton 2
Carlton win
Carlton scored the first goal after half an hour through Bill Gorman, who had appeared for Melbourne the previous year, and kept the pressure on Melbourne's defence for another 30 minutes before sealing their first win over Melbourne match with a second goal. The home side was handicapped by several players failing to turn up, replaced by inferior substitutes. They also lost Fleming and Ireland to other engagements shortly after the start of the game, playing two short for the rest of the match.
Best for Melbourne were Ferguson, Finlay and Horan
Selected side
