Melbourne win by 1 goal
Goalkicker: John Macdonald 1
With over a month since their last league victory, Melbourne welcomed Essendon the MCG and got back in the winners circle.
The visitors were fast and enthusiastic, but they couldn't cope with the size of their opponents. They had two decent opportunities on goal in the first half, and often seemed to be 60 to 80 yards from the Melbourne goal but were unable to capitalise.
McDonald eventually got the first goal for Melbourne, and the home side also had two goals disallowed with Essendon having one of their own ruled out. After Melbourne's first goal the ball travelled from end-to-end rapidly but there was no further major score.
Best were Watson, Bennie and E. Longden.
