Started his career at Melbourne as a bootstudder under Norm Smith in the late 1950s. Pearce was a founding member of the anti-merger Demon Alternative group. He was added to the board in September 1996, serving until the end of 1997. In the board election Pearce received 476 votes and and finished behind successful candidate Angus Graham.
