West Coast win by 36 points
West Coast returned to Victoria for the first time since their 1992 Grand Final win, and ran away with an easily win after half time. Melbourne's intent to chase and tackle was not in doubt, but ruined by atrocious disposal. In the absence of the suspended Allen Jakovich, Sean Wight was trialled up front but was ineffective. In fact none of the team's goals came from forwards.
The margin was just a point at half time, but the Eagles kicked five goals to one in the third and four to two in the last to register an easy win.
Neale Balme said: "It's a bloody tough way to learn about your side by losing. It showed me that we had good commitment and attitude, but our execution of skills on occasions was ordinary."
