Edward "Vern" Moore had made a name for himself playing in army teams while stationed in France during World War I but didn't make his league debut until after his 27th birthday after joining from VFA side Prahran.

In Round 13, 1923 he suspended for the rest of the season for kicking.

He played three seasons for Melbourne before joining Richmond in July 1925 and adding another four matches to his career tally. Moore then captain/coached Murrumbeena from 1927 to 1928.
