Hotham win by 2 goals
A season which had started so promisingly when Melbourne beat Hotham in early May came to a limp end with yet another defeat against a senior club.
The home side kicked with the wind in the first half and kicked two goals while keeping Melbourne without any scoring shots at all. They should have had more goals, but blew opportunities with poor forward play. It took until shortly before half time to score a vital second goal.
When they had the breeze in the second half Melbourne put up some token resistance but could only manage behinds and were beaten one last time for 1884. The wind often carried the ball out of bounds, further reducing opportunities to score.
Best were Coulson, Tuckfield, Franks and Aitken.
