In a strong cross wind the Fuschias hit the post five times, but it didn't stop them from registering their second straight victory. North provided some resistance, but Melbourne's class won out in the end.
After a sluggish first half where North's defenders and smaller players held their more fancied opponents Melbourne kicked 7.6 to 1.2 in the third quarter to put the game beyond doubt. North were unable to cope with the greater strength of their opponents and injuries to three players.
Despite the injury handicap they managed to keep the margin respectable, winning the last quarter.
Best were Mueller, Gibb and La Fontaine. Taylor injured his leg and was replaced by 19th man Ball at half time.
