In the match of the day the top placed Demons extended their lead at the top of the table with a third straight win.
Melbourne kept the Blues at arm's length for the whole day and never looked close to winning. Jack Mueller was at his best in the backline, and with Maurie Gibb dominant on the wing they did enough to win. A dominant centre line and ruck division gave them more than 30 chances and goal and restricted the Blues to just 21.
Ogden was also amongst the best. Baggott was 19th man. Glass injured his ankle and Fischer was concussed.
