Milestones:
Biggest win at Bellerive Oval
Melbourne started hot favouites against wooden spoon contenders who hadn't won since Round 2, but looked set for the biggest upset of the season when North led by 32 points early in the second quarter. Seven of the last eight goals of the term cut the margin to four points at the half, before the Demons took over in the third quarter to lead by 28 points. With the loss of Harrison Petty to a serious foot injury, Melbourne lost their focal point in the forward line and the sides only scored one goal apiece in the final term. It consigned North to their 18th consecutive loss.
Best were Pickett, Petracca and Brayshaw. Michael Hibberd replaced Harrison Petty (foot) in the third quarter.
