After an even first half the Demons open, functioning forward line helped them snuff out the North challenge. David Flintoff, a late replacement for Greg Healy dominated around the packs and received support from Ricky Jackson. Best for Melbourne though was Stephen Newport who was brilliant on the dangerous Matthew Larkin.
After winning three matches in a row by a combined total of 17 points the comfortable victory with some breathing space was as good as a ten goal result.
Steve O'Dwyer was reported for abusive language in the last quarter.
