Excitement about the visit was such that local businesses closed so employees could watch the game. The visitors arrived by train in the morning and were taken for refreshments, before both sides were driven round the town.
Once the game started at 3pm, Ipswich had the kick off but were quickly on the back foot. Ipswich recovered to score their only goal in the second term, and with the use of the wind had much of the play without capitalising. Melbourne did better in the last quarter, booting several goals to make sure of victory. After another social function, the majority of the side left for Brisbane by train that night.
Best were Griffith, H. King and J. Kelly
Notes
The venue is referred to as the 'Cricket Reserve' in North Ipswich.
