Lightly built key position player who was on Melbourne's senior list in 1959 but did not play a game. He wasn't cleared by his old side until June 1959. He was dropped from the senior list three weeks later, then suffered a cut head and concussion when crashing into the fence during a Seconds game.

Remained on the list in 1960. Wore number 19 in Reserves games both years. Cut from the senior list in early 1961 and joined Fitzroy where he played two games. He also trained with Richmond during that pre-season.

Shown as a centre half-back in some reports and a centre half-forward in others. Name spelt Stephens in some sources. 19-years-old in March 1959.
