DOB: 17 August 1978
From: Glenorchy/Tasmania U18, Selection #33, 1997 Rookie Draft
The former state Under 17 cricket representative was recruited to the Melbourne rookie list by his old Tassie Mariners coach Chris Fagan and spent his first season in the reserves where he finished fourth in the Best and Fairest before being promoted off the rookie list early in 1999. He kicked three goals in his second game and looked like a promising pick up for the Demons, but played just 11 games for the year.
In his third year at the club Beams managed just six home and away matches in 2000, but featured in a premiership with Sandringham, and a week later he was called up for his seventh match of the season as a late replacement for Cameron Bruce in the 2000 Grand Final, after Bruce failed a fitness test on his quad. Beams hadn't played seniors since breaking his arm in Round 14, and his Grand Final experience was an unhappy one, playing just fifteen minutes and not registering a possession.
Beams started the 2001 season brightly, and was one of the side's best in the Ansett Cup, but after playing the first two games of the regular season he only managed five in total and was delisted at the end of the year.
Beams joined the Tasmanian VFL team in 2002 and later captained them. In 2008 he was appointed coach of Myrtleford but suffered a knee injury and saw his side lose every match for the season. Coached University in the Tasmanian Old Scholars League in 2009 and Glenorchy in 2012 and 2013.
