Saturday 24 August - North Melbourne Recreation Reserve
North Melbourne 0.0, 2.2, 2.2, 2.3
Melbourne 2.3, 2.3, 4.4, 4.4
Melbourne won by 2 goals
Goalkickers: Wilson 1, Smith 1, O'Halloran 1, McCarthy 1
After two defeats in a row Melbourne gave themselves some minor chances of a late run at the premiership with a much improved performance against North.
The match was hardly a spectacle, ruined by rough play and a wind that kept the ball in one corner of the ground for most of the days, but Melbourne also contributed to bringing the tone down by engaging in time wasting techniques during the last term when they were defending into the wind. North fans had earlier kept the ball away from them when it went out of bounds as they were trying to take advantage of the breeze.
Best were Fry, Moodie and Wardill.
