1955 Seconds Preliminary Final

Saturday 10 September
MCG

Footscray - 7.2, 10.2, 14.7, 16.8.104
Melbourne - 1.1, 5.4, 8.5, 13.12.90

Footscray won by 14 points

Goalkickers: Mountain 5, Longney 2, Hamilton 2, McKenzie 1, Whitten 1, Germaine 1, Constable 1

The Bulldogs won the game with a seven goal blast in the first quarter, and despite a comeback in the last term Melbourne could never get close enough to seriously challenge. Inaccurate kicking and indecisive forward play cost them.

Footscray got off to a good start by blanketing thedangerous Terry Gleeson early. He improved later in the game and became one of his side's best, but not until the Dogs had opened up a match winning lead.

Best were Hamilton, Mountain and Gleeson
