A member of the pre-VFL Hawthorn side aged 16, injury halted his playing career. He was further seriously injured in a car accident suffered while working as a policeman in 1932.

Guy was appointed a member of the Melbourne training staff by Percy Page in 1934, staying in the job through 1935. He also worked with sports stars in other sports, including cycling, rowing and boxing.
