Another day another defeat for Melbourne as they slipped to 1-8. Into a slight breeze Fitzroy kicked the first two goals of the game and it set the tone for their easy victory. They only allowed the visitors one shot on goal for the entire second term and had 3.7 of their own. Had their kicking been better they might have won by much more.
Melbourne only fired in the the third quarter, kicking four goals to one to at least make the last quarter interesting but Fitzroy were having none of it and ran away to win comfortably.
Best were Strong, Sleeman and Stanway.
