After two competitive losses the Redlegs finally tasted victory in their third engagement of the season. They led all the way, and for the third straight game they played a strong last quarter.

Despite rain falling throughout the match it was played at a high standard, and Melbourne adopted to the conditions better - maintaining their pace despite the conditions.

Beames, Fischer and Jones were best. Melbourne was without Robert C Johnson who realised that his style of play was not suitable for the conditions and stood down. Riley was originally 19th man and Conole was promoted from the emergencies. Beames (ankle), Tymms (side) and debutant Barnett (shoulder) all suffered injuries.
