The Reds were well beaten for their first loss of the season. On an ideal day for football, with no affecting play, the visitors kicked the first goal and behind before failing to score for the rest of the term. South dominated from then until the first break, kicking 2.6 to no reply. The home side got the only goal of the second quarter as well, extending the lead to 21 at half time.

The play in the third quarter was more even, and Brereton missed a golden chance to kick his side's first goal since the first quarter. The game began crowded and neither side kicked a goal for the term. Play opened in the last quarter, with more goals combined than the two sides had put on across the first three quarters. South had the better of it with three to two and further extended the margin.

Best were McKenzie, Allan and Tompkins. Robertson hurt his knee.
