The Demons showed only flashes of their best, but a solid defence helped them get their season back on track with a comfortable win over North. In wet conditions with a strong wind they were, once again, inaccurate but for once so were their opponents. At one point they had 2.10 on the board.

Athol Webb missed two shots early but bounced back to have his best game yet at full-forward, while Bob McKenzie was the best of the forwards in just his second match for the year.

North could have taken the lead in the second quarter, but inaccuracy kept them behind and they could never get back into the game again. Melbourne's success came despite their half-forwards and wingers being beaten easily through the day.

Geoff McGivern was the Demons' best, beating two opponents with what The Age described as "clever ground play, safe marking and intelligent disposal". Also amongst the best were McKenzie and Mithen. R. Johnson was replaced by T. Johnson after suffering a leg injury, and Ridley (thigh) was replaced by Bull. Mithen (split hand), Spencer (bruised shoulder) and McGivern (knee) were also injured.

The Demons wouldn't lose another game until Round 14, 1956, setting off their longest ever winning streak of 19 games.
