Melbourne win by 1 goal

Goalkickers: Dodds 2, Baird 1

A third win in a row got Melbourne's season back on track. With Robinson acting as captain, Williamstown scored first but by half time they were behind and had registered six less shots on goal.

After Melbourne showed up 40 minutes late, the locals got the first goal of the game. Dodds got Melbourne's first in the next quarter after a mark from a kick by Tuckfield, and he added a second near the end of the half to give his side the lead.

The third term opened with a grand struggle between the sides, and Williamstown attacked first but could only register a behind. Melbourne went down the other end and got the third goal of the game. They wouldn't get another, and the home side dragged the margin back to a single goal but neither team would kick another goal.

Due to the match kicking off 40 minutes behind the usual time bad light handicapped play in the final term, and Wiliamstown had two chances to Melbourne's one but couldn't find an equaliser.

Best were Murphy, O'Bern and Griffiths.
