The juniors showed good form early with a 25 to 17 player advantage, but on a slippery ground were unable to break through. Melbourne also found scoring difficult due to the conditions and only managed a single goal.

Clifton made a game of it at the start and kept the ball in front of Melbourne's goal for 10 minutes and registering their only behind of the afternoon. Melbourne then settled in but missed numerous chances and went to the half level. Marshall finally got their only goal of the day, and the rest of the game was spent on Melbourne behinds.
