Lenne began his career with the Melbourne Seconds and played for Prahran City before rejoining Auburn Baptists in 1937. He crossed to VFA side Camberwell without a clearance in 1939 and was suspended from VFL football for a year. He returned to Melbourne in June 1940, ironically earning a three year suspension from the VFA. He had also signed with Hawthorn, but they allowed him to join the Demons without protest.

He played in the Seconds again in 1940, before making a senior debut the next season. He played through 1941 and 1942 before interrupting his career to serve in the Air Force, returning for four games in 1945.

Lenne later become a player's advocate at the VFL tribunal. He returned to the club in 1955 and served as Secretary and Chairman of the Reserves and was appointed to the committee in 1970 where he served until 1974.

His uncle Bert played 178 games for Fitzroy and St Kilda between 1910 and 1924.

Notes
This article suggests he joined Melbourne from a junior club - possibly Auburn Baptists - then went to Prahran City, then back to his junior club before joining Camberwell without a clearance. Name spelt Lennie in some sources. Some sources say he was in the AIF rather than the Air Force. Club may have been Camberwell Baptists
