Originally drafted by the Crows with pick #32 in the 2005 National Draft, Vince played 10 games over two seasons, before finding a permanent place in the Adelaide midfield from 2008. He was Adelaide's best and fairest player the next year.

Seeking to improve their midfield, Melbourne used the compensation pick they received for losing Colin Sylvia to Fremantle to land Vince in the 2013 trade period. Vince played every game for the year and was one of his side's best performers - including a season leading performance of 41 possessions against North Melbourne in Round 14. Used as an attacking tagger for much of 2015, Vince won the Best and Fairest and received the highest Brownlow Medal tally of his career.

In 2016 he was more often used as a defender, and played all but one game for the season. He was a regular again in 2017, only missing three games due to suspension and winning a one year contract extension. Played a further 17 games in 2018, but was dropped twice, suffered a season-ending shoulder injury and retired at the end of the year.

Played for Moe in 2019 and also worked in media.
