April 1892 match vs Ballarat

Monday 18 April - Saxon Paddock

Ballarat 2.2, 3.4, 4.7, 5.11
Melbourne 1.0, 1.0, 2.1, 2.2

Goalkickers: Patrick O'Dea 1, Aitken 1

Both teams took the opportunity to blood a number of youngsters in the early season match.

Within a few minutes the visitors had taken the lead through Patrick O'Dea, but it was to be their only major of the first half. Ballarat equalised and O'Dea, in one of his few blemishes on debut, missed an easy mark 10 yards out from goal which would have given his side the lead again.

The home side had the use of the breeze in the second, and despite a couple of brave forward thrusts by Melbourne had the ball camped in front of the opposition goal and added another to no score in response. They suffered from the loss of their 20th man McRail who was ordered from the ground by his captain for insubordination.

In the third quarter the two sides traded play from end to end for a goal apiece but they got no closer - failing to score a goal in the final term.
