Better known as 'Dutchy', Couve was a 1912 pre-season player who didn't make the team, along with his brother Henry. They returned to their original club and won a premiership that season.

The brothers embarked on World War I service in October 1914 and were killed during the Gallipoli landings while serving in the 8th Infantry Batallion.

He was 21-years-old when he died.
