Melbourne win by forfeit
A silver cup "the Caledonian Trophy" was offered by the Caledonian Society as part of the Highland Games. The match 'ended' with University one goal in front, but the match was considered unfinished and University were given the trophy on the condition that they finished the match the next season.
The return match was supposed to be played on 17 May but University were unable to field a team. It was rescheduled to 31 May, but when they didn't show up again Melbourne kicked two ceremonial goals and claimed victory.
