With hot Queensland weather predicted there was talk that the game would be moved to a night match, but it stayed as a day game and was played in 27 degree sunshine with 79% humidity. A supporter donated 22 ice jackets for the players to wear in the sweltering Brisbane conditions.
The Lions got to within seven points early in the last quarter but the Demons steadied to win their second straight. The club's first consecutive win since beating Fitzroy in Round 15, 1995.
Best were Viney, Steve Febey and Shanahan. Brent Grgic was reported for striking and suspended for two matches.
