Hotham win by 4 goals

Goalkicker: Power 2

Melbourne's horror 1882 season continued to limp towards its conclusion with yet another loss in a match described as 'unnecessarily rough and at times almost brutal'.

A strong wind blew across the ground, disadvantaging neither side, but Melbourne were soon on the back foot and conceded the first goal three or four minutes after the kick-off.

George Aitken responded with two behinds, but immediately from the restart after the second minor score Hotham extended their lead. It took a mighty kick by F. Longden from over 100 yards out which landed in the arms of Power near the goal for Melbourne to register their first goal.

Hotham had much the better of the second half, kicking the third and fourth goals soon after the restart and then adding a fifth for good measure. From there the ball was usually stuck down Melbourne's end, but they did manage another goal through Power before Hotham scored a sixth.

Best were McKenzie, Rannard and E Longden.
