Impressively tattooed defender who played in a premiership for the Northern Knights, before crossing to South Australia to play for the Crows in 1995. Broke his leg at North Adelaide and didn't make his AFL debut until the next year. After six games for Adelaide in 1997 he requested a trade back to Melbourne and joined the Demons.
The trade allowed Collins and fellow Victorian Brent Williams to cross to Melbourne in exchange for South Australians Nathan Bassett and Trent Ormond-Allen.
Plagued with injuries he had already had three groin operations, and broken his forearm twice by the time he reached the Demons. A plate and pins in the arm were a lasting legacy of the injuries, and at one stage with the Crows he even broke a piece of the plate off.
Collins debuted in 1998 but failed to establish himself in the senior side. He missed the start of the season with a hernia, and broke his arm again during the year. Entering the 2000 season with a handful of games over the previous two seasons it was a make-or-break year for him, but he ended up playing every game of the year in either the seniors or the reserves in his career best season. The last of his 14 games for the year was the losing losing Grand Final. He added just nine games the next year after suffering a knee injury which derailed his second half of the year and was delisted at the end of the season when the Demons were squeezed by salary cap pressures.
Despite some interest from St Kilda the Saints failed to use any of their pre-season draft picks and Collins joined the Northern Bullants for 17 games in 2002. He played for Seymour in 2006.
