June 1875 Match vs Albert Park

Saturday 12 June - Melbourne Ground
Crowd - 4000

Melbourne 2
Albert Park 0 (half time 1.?-0.1)

Melbourne win by 2 goals

Goalkickers: William Freeman 1, Edwin Towle 1

The quality of the game was ruined by the muddy and slippery conditions, and Albert Park were handicapped further by playing two short at the start of the game. They gradually increased their numbers to 18, but after Melbourne weathered the early storm they took over. William Freeman got the only goal of the first half from a drop kick after a John Bennie assist, but the home side were rarely troubled and only conceded one behind for the day.

Albert Park battled hard in the second half but were unable to get the ball past midway and eventually conceded a second goal after Towle danced through the Albert Park defence.

Best were O. Williams, Goldsmith and Freeman.

Notes
Some sources say Melbourne played two short at the start.
