Saturday 21 June - Melbourne Ground
Crowd: 2000
Melbourne 1
Southern 0 (half time 1-0)
Melbourne win by 1 goal
Goalkicker: Darchy
The junior club played with a 20-18 advantage, and suffered narrow defeat at the hands of the senior side. They were clearly overmatched, and compensated with a rough style. Melbourne soon had the ball around their goal, but after a number of good chances it took the Reds until just before half time to score. The ball came off the wing, and Goldsmith kicked out of a scrimmage to Darchy who converted.
It took until 10 minutes to go in the game for Southern to launched their first drive towards Melbourne's goal and a behind, but when the ball was kicked off again it didn't come back and one goal was enough to win.
Best were Darchy, Forrester, Byrne
