On the list at Sydney throughout three wooden spoon seasons in 1992, 1993 and 1994 before moving to Fremantle where he didn't play a game. He spent that year playing for East Perth in the WAFL.

Nettelbeck crossed to Melbourne as they started their decline and won his fourth career wooden spoon in 1997. He missed almost half that season with shoulder and back injuries, and after undergoing surgery on the troublesome shoulder at the end of the year he played 17 reserves games in 1998 but couldn't get a game in a much improved side.

Joined the Bulldogs in 1999 but injured his knee in a pre-season match and ended his career. In 2004 Nettelbeck, now involved in sports marketing, was charged with indecently assaulting a female at a South Yarra bar. He was fined.

He later became an accredited player agent.
