August 1873 match vs Collingwood

Saturday 30 August - Melbourne Ground

Melbourne 2
Collingwood 0

Melbourne win by 2 goals

Goalkickers: Charles Carr 1, Robert Carr 1

The match was supposed to feature a 20-18 advantage in Collingwood's favour, but as they had two players fail to appear the junior club played on an even level with the seniors. It resulted in a one-sided match where Melbourne missed a string of opportunities to score in a gusty wind. The Carr brothers eventually broke through to score, and though Collingwood never had a decent shot on goal their opponents couldn't add any more score.

Best were Barker, Miller and Williams.

Notes
Some sources say Melbourne played with an 18-17 advantage.
