The nephew of St. Kilda legend Danny Frawley was a Victorian County representative in 2006 before being drafted by the Demons with a late first round pick. Nicknamed 'Chip' in tribute to his uncle 'Spud', Frawley's slight frame and awkward kicking style initially saw him struggle, but in an increasingly strong backline he flourished in 2009 to play a career high 20 games.

In May 2010, already touted as a potential All-Australian defender, Frawley's improvement was rewarded with a new four year deal to keep him at the club until his mid twenties. It put him out of the reach of the Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney expansion teams, and Frawley responded with a dominant career best season as he bulked up and improved his kicking skills.

Taking a number of prized scalps throughout the year on route to a second place Best and Fairest finish, Chip's run out of the backline was a feature of the Demons' much improved second half of the season as they went close to an improbable finals appearance. His improvement was recognised when he was named as one of the 40 players on the All Australian team shortlist, and he was named in the back pocket of the final side.

A torn pectoral muscle suffered during the 2011 pre-season caused Frawley to miss the start of the year, but he returned in Round 2 and was ever present for the rest of the year. Despite the disappointing campaign by his side, Frawley usually took the opposition's best defender.

Despite missing games with injury in both seasons Frawley was more of his side's most consistent players across the horror 2012 and 2013 campaigns, regularly beating highly accomplished players despite the Demons only six games over two seasons.

Despite only having kicked five goals in over 100 games Frawley was used as an emergency forward in 2014 due to a number of injuries to other key position players. In the space of three weeks he equalled his career goal tally, having not kicked a major since 2011.

In 2014 he was named an unrestricted free agent. Despite only qualifying as a restricted free agent based on his years of service, a front-ended contract meant he wasn't amongst the top paid players at the club and was therefore granted unrestricted status - allowing him to leave for the club of his choice - early.

With Melbourne's forward line ravaged by injury and the retirement of Mitch Clark Frawley spent much of the year playing in attack for the first time in his career. He missed just one game for the year and kicked a career high two goals in a game five times during the season.

At the end of the season Frawley opted to join premiers Hawthorn under free agency and debuted for them in the first match of 2015. He won a premiership for the Hawks in his first year, and remained there until the end of 2020 when he retired. Frawley was convinced to return and play for St Kilda in 2021 but suffered a serious hamstring injury in a pre-season match and didn't play his first game for them until midway through the season. After two games he retired again.
