Defender promoted from the Melbourne Juniors, Robertson played just three matches over two seasons.

He was appointed captain of the Seconds in 1925 and never played league football again. In his first match in charge, an intra-club game against the Melbourne seniors, he was knocked unconscious after a heavy blow to the chest.
