Barry was listed by Greater Western Sydney as a Northern Territory Zone player, which allowed them to trade him to the Demons along with pick 20 and the right to select the second player in the 2012 mini-draft - Jesse Hogan - for pick three.
Originally from the Northern Territory, Barry moved to Victoria for school at 14-years-old when he won an indigenous tennis scholarship.
A fringe football player at St Patrick's College entering 2012, he had a remarkable rise to the point where he was being spoken of as a potential second round draft selection before Melbourne secured his services.
Barry didn't play a senior match in his first year with the club, spending the entire year with the Casey Demons. Despite this he toured Ireland with the Indigenous All-Stars team at the end of the season.
After two games midway through 2014 Barry signed a contract extension which kept him at the club until the end of 2016. He played a further three for the rest of the year.
At the end of the season Barry retired, citing a desire to return to the Northern Territory. He played for Federals in Alice Springs in 2015, and Waratahs in the NTFL season.
