Melbourne won a surprisingly easy victory on St Kilda's ground, with all the damage being done in the first quarter. Harry Graham got an early goal with the wind, and by the first break the visitors were three goals up. Melbourne were kept scoreless in the second but St Kilda could only manage two goals. Three to nil in the third term gave Melbourne a four goal lead, and the home side only managed one in the final term to go down to a comfortable defeat.
