Mature-age defender picked up by the Demons after two seasons of consistently good performances for Norwood - including consecutive premierships. He took a pay cut from his job as engineer in Adelaide to pursue an AFL dream at Melbourne.

Georgiou played four seasons in the SANFL before being drafted. Despite dominating forwards he hardly attracted any interest, with his coach Nathan Bassett explaining the lack of attention by saying "He looks like Mr Bean, he runs like he's running on broken glass and his kick looks awkward. But he's such a good defender, he uses the ball well and he makes good decisions."

After impressing in the pre-season campaign he was elevated to the senior list to replace Mitch Clark who had gone on the long term injury list before the start of the season, and with Colin Garland injured he made his debut in Melbourne's first match of the season.

He played the first seven matches of the season before going back to Casey Demons once Garland returned. With the emergence of Lynden Dunn and Jeremy Howe in the Demon defence Georgiou was not required again and he was delisted at the end of the season. He returned to Norwood as captain in 2015 where he remained until the end of 2018.
