1914 Match vs Castlemaine League

Saturday 8 August

Melbourne 3.3, 6.7, 11.11, 12.15.87
Castlemaine 1.1, 4.4, 4.4, 6.6.42

Melbourne win by 45 points

A combined side of the Castlemaine League lost but weren't disgraced against a side who had only won two VFL matches all year. The locals had players from Castlemaine, Kyneton, Maldon, Daylesford and Castlemaine Foundry.

Melbourne took an early lead but the home side held them to three goals apiece in the second term before the visitors kicked away again in the third with 5.4 to nothing. Castlemaine won the last quarter when Melbourne turned the pressure off, but they were too far behind.

Bill McKenzie was briefly knocked out after a collision with a Castlemaine player.
