The son of Arnold Wilson, who had played two years for St Kilda from 1909 once reached the Stawell Gift final, but despite his pace and playing in practice matches before the 1935 season he couldn't add to the one game he played as a half-back in the opening round of 1934 and left the Redlegs.
After winning the Dandenong Gift footrace he as cleared to St Kilda in the 1936 pre-season, but didn't play a senior game with them until the next year. He remained there until 1941 when he crossed to Coburg without a clearance, earning himself a three year ban from league football. Wilson returned in 1945 for a final season with the Saints.
Wilson later joined Coburg for a second time, captain/coaching them in 1947 and reverting to playing only in 1948 and remaining there until 1950.
