The AIS-AFL Academy graduate, and Vic Metro representative player in 2008 and 2009 joined the Demons with the draft pick received for trading Brock McLean to Carlton.

Performed impressively on his debut against the top of the ladder Cats with 26 possessions, the most for his side on the day, and was nominated for the Rising Star award after racking up 27 touches in the wet against Carlton the next week. Dropped after his third game Gysberts was then shelved for the rest of the season with persistent back injuries.

He received a second Rising Star nomination for a best on ground performance exactly a year after his first, but saw his season ended after Round 20, 2011 when he suffered a wrist injury.

An ankle injury suffered in a Casey Demons game caused him to miss the start of the 2012 season, and on his return for Casey suffered a broken jaw which further delayed his appearance in the senior side. He eventually back into the Melbourne side for the Round 19 victory over Gold Coast but failed to impress, was dropped and did not play another senior match.

At the end of the season he was traded to North Melbourne along with National Draft pick 63 for Cameron Pedersen and pick 74. He failed to play a senior match in his first season with the Kangaroos and was delisted.

He joined Eastern Football League side Norwood in 2014 and for St Kevin's in the VAFA 2015. Returned to Norwood in 2017 and remained there through 2019.
