After training with Melbourne in the 1947 pre-season, "Snowy" O'Connor was refused a clearance by Prahran but joined the Demons anyway. He had been given permission to train with Hawthorn in the same pre-season.
He played a solid first season, where he appeared in almost every game and kicked 22 goals. The lightly built rover only managed seven games in his second and last VFL season before being dropped by the list in the 1949 pre-season. He played in the Hawthorn Seconds that year, before returning to Prahran in 1950.
